My 2016 “Must” Reads

I need to read more often. I find that once I do start reading a book that I enjoy, I feel like I’m spiraling into a different world. I love that feeling. It’s like I’m in my own skewed version of reality….

That being said, I am striving to read more books this year! I already have a few that I’m planning to finish in 2016 and I am also looking for any recommendations. As a bonus, I’ll throw in some of my favorites as suggestions for you!

My Must Reads for 2016

A Clash of Kings (book 2 in A Song of Ice and Fire) – George R.R. Martin

  • I’ve been “reading” this book for quite some time already and it feels like I don’t get anywhere. I’m hoping to finish it on my flights when I visit Jay in April!

A Storm of Swords (book 3 in A Song of Ice and Fire) – George R.R. Martin

  • This is the next in the Game of Thrones series. It’s a struggle to get through since each book is so long and I have the kindle version of A Song of Ice and Fire so each book is considered one chapter! It’s a little discouraging to have 20+ hours left in one “chapter” haha.

2016 Considerations – These are books that I will potentially add to my list this year. I’ve heard all good things and think I should check them out!

The Girl on the Train – Paula Hawkins

Room: A Novel – Emma Donoghue

All the Night We Cannot See – Anthony Doerr

My Recommendations – For some reason I can only ever think of these two books when I give recommendations. Unless you have never read the Harry Potter series, because that is a MUST MUST MUST read for all people. (Also, RIP Alan Rickman. We love Snape)

The Alchemist – Paolo Coelho

  • I recommend this book to everyone. It’s philosophical and very well written. I found it a pretty “quick” read in the sense that you can finish it in a short period of time. For me though, I liked to take my time reading this book. That way I could fully absorb the content and get the most out of the overall message.

The Goldfinch – Donna Tartt

  • This is a long book, but well worth the time. It’s like those movies where you swear it has to be almost over because “what else could happen?” in it. There is a lot of action and the story really drives itself forward.

What are books that you’ve enjoyed reading? Tell me your recommendations and I’ll check them out! Who knows, they may end up as one of my recommendations for others next time I post. 🙂

  1. I’ve read all 5 books from A Song of Ice and Fire series (aka Game of Thrones) and I advise you to take the time reading those. It is longer than HP and it is epic like Tolkien! There are loads of new characters introduced and its hard to keep track. A nice, slow pace would do the trick. And you’ll get drawn into their world more. I wont spoil you though (who died and what not). Who are your favorite characters there?
As for recommendations: Slammerkin by Emma Donoghue; Eleven Minutes/Witch of Portobello by Paolo Coelho; and The Pillars of the Earth by Ken Follett

    1. I tend to read them slowly because the introduction of new characters always confuses me a bit. It seems like once I get used to the characters I’m reading about there’s a new batch of 5 that I can’t remember, haha. My favorite characters for now are Tyrion, Arya, and Jon. I think they are the pretty dynamic characters and they seem the most “real” to me for some reason.
I will have to check those out! I’ve only ever read The Alchemist by Paolo Coelho, but it’s one of my favorite books. I’ll definitely be checking out his book! Thanks 🙂
