  1. a romantic relationship between two people who live far apart and so are unable to meet on a frequent basis.

Or how I like to define it: hell.

I have been in a long-distance relationship for exactly a year and a half now, and as far as I know, we are probably going to be another six months apart. Or another two years, but you know, no biggie.
During this incredible amount of time, I have met and talked to many people who were, have been, or were going to be in the same situation, and the question I get asked the most, the one that comes after the weird and pitiful stares, is:
How do you make it work? What’s the secret?

The answer usually involves a lot of ‘uhmms’ and ‘I don’t know’, but…
