7 years ago I was in my junior year of high school taking an economics course. I don’t remember many specific assignments from classes I took so long ago, but one has stuck with me through the years. We were given the task to go to our local Goodwill store and purchase an outfit to wear to school. The challenge was to find something we wouldn’t mind being seen in while also spending the least amount of money.
As I was strolling through the aisles looking for something semi-fashionable when I stumbled across a shirt that caught my eye. It was a simple t-shirt in heather grey with the word “GIVE” plastered across the front. I thought that was a kind of silly thing to have across your chest until I saw the back of the shirt. The back was emblazoned with a quote from Winston Churchill:
We make a living by what we get, we make a life by what we get
It was something so simple, but it really struck me. It’s been 7 years since I started wearing that shirt and I hope to get 7 more years out of it.
